SERVICE OF PROCESS
When a dispute begins in Civil Court, the Plaintiff must give the Defendant notice that a Lawsuit has been filed. Service of a Summons and Complaint notifies the Defendant of this and gives the Court Jurisdiction over the Defendant. This is called Service of Process.
Process is defined as "any means used by the court to acquire or exercise its jurisdiction over a person or specific property" and a "means whereby court compels appearance of a defendant before it or compliance with its demands."
